At the CCHR Anniversary Dinner recently, a young mother relayed the tragic story of her 12-year-old daughter driven to suicide while taking an antidepressant prescribed because she was anxious over exams. “My child deserved to live,” the mother said. “I deserved to have my child. My daughter deserved to have a sibling instead of being an only child…nothing I do can bring my daughter back but I’ll be damned if I will stand by and watch other children die and I will do whatever it takes, I will go wherever I need to go, I will speak out wherever I can to tell people, ‘Don’t be fooled.’”

The problem parents face, especially when inundated with a $4.5 billion a year direct-to-consumer advertising campaign telling them drugs are safe and effective, is that they are not informed that there are medical and educational alternatives to mind-altering psychiatric drugs.

They also face this fundamental contradiction: “Just say ‘no’ to drugs”—unless a psychiatrist prescribes them. Never mind that the drugs are as addictive as cocaine and more abused than street drugs. In the U.S., about 3,500 people die each year from unintentional deaths due to antidepressants, sleeping pills, and tranquilizers—more than all cocaine and heroin deaths combined.

A recent article revealed that the suicide rate among middle-aged Americans, 45 to 54 years old, rose 20 percent between 1999 and 2004. In that same period, the use of antidepressants among adults rose by nearly 50 percent. Imagine what the risk, then is for young bodies. Last week, the British drug regulatory agency issued a report that the sevenfold risk of suicide in those under 18 taking the antidepressant Paxil was known about for five years before the manufacturer declared it. Meanwhile, a study published this month in the Public Library of Science Journal, found that antidepressants are no more effective than placebos (dummy pills). Yet, 1.5 million American kids are prescribed these drugs.

Grassroots public information campaign needed
Your support is needed to help launch a massive grassroots education campaign that can open the eyes of parents and families who have been denied the truth about the potential dangers of psychiatric drugs.

I urge you to go to www.cchr.org/publications/ to view this fantastic new brochure, “Psychiatric Drugs & Your Child’s Future.”

This very easy to read 16-page booklet simply asks parents to become aware of their options: question the information given them that their child has a “chemical imbalance” in the brain requiring a drug that could cause hallucinations, psychosis, suicide and death. What physical test will be conducted to confirm the child’s diagnosis?

“Psychiatric Drugs and Your Child’s Future” doesn’t dictate what parents must do; it just tells them to use their best parental judgment. However, in order to do this, they need to be informed.

You can help families from experiencing the devastation that our mother above and many like her have suffered. You can help take the tragedy of children’s deaths from psychiatric drugs and turn this into a crusade for children’s rights and protection.

You can donate today to CCHR’s campaign to get this publication distributed broadly to millions. Your tax-deductible contributions can and do make a difference.

Read again the above mother’s anguish and her response: “I’ll be damned if I will stand by and watch other children die and I will do whatever it takes…I will speak out wherever I can….”
I am asking you to do no less.

Children are our future. They are our future leaders, parents, artists, businessmen, mothers and more. Will our future generation be free to explore their inherent abilities or will they be too drugged to run the country? The responsibility rests with all of us now. We count on you in this vital task to get this brochure distributed. There is urgency in this. Too many children have been damaged, too many of their lives lost because parents were misinformed.

Please donate generously towards the distribution of “Psychiatric Drugs and Your Child’s Future” today. Details are below.
Sincerely
Jan Eastgate
International President
